Day Three

Day Three was similar to Day 2 structurally, but very different in terms of execution. I had my second interview today and enjoyed speaking to Deborah Green, director of health education at the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation (SCDF). Remembering my experience from the previous day, I made sure not to be rigid and instead let the discussion go in other directions. Overall, I went off-script and asked follow-ups where applicable. I also made my questions broader to allow my interviewee to answer more freely. As a result, the discussion flowed better than it had the previous day and was successful on the whole.

One thing I want to improve for my next interviews is my professionalism. Because I made an effort to be more spontaneous with my conversation, I had more trouble sounding as practiced as I would have had I read off my script. For the following sessions, I will try to fix this by using more descriptive and polished language while making sure I don’t sound stilted or memorized.

That’s my goal for the next few meetings — excited to see how they go!
