Day Four
Today was relatively low-action but high-planning and preparation.
The interview that I was supposed to hold today unfortunately did not take place due to a lack of proper communication. Since my interviewee was in Eastern Time and I am in Pacific Time, we frequently missed one another’s windows of availability (she would send me information too early and I would respond too late). This is one obstacle that I am not able to do much about and will simply have to adapt to.
On a positive note, during my Digital Media class, I asked my teacher for some pointers on how to make a high-quality video based on the material I would have available. I learned that, since some of my interviewees had only felt comfortable with being audio-recorded, I would have to animate accompanying visuals for those portions. Realizing that there would be some extra effort to put in here, I requested to use my time in this class to work on the video and received permission to do so. This project is expanding across other subjects and skills already!
Additionally, to address my concerns over sounding unprofessional from the previous day, I drafted some sample reactions and conversation-concluders that matched the tone I was looking for: polished without sounding memorized or stilted. Writing these down gave me a better idea of what I was looking for, but I will try not to read them off my laptop in the meetings to avoid sounding over-practiced.
Finally, I sent the Google Meet Link to my last interviewee (whom I will be meeting on Friday). I hope to use everything I have learned throughout the last few days to make this iteration my best yet!
