Day Twelve

Today, most of my work was within my smaller communities (I didn’t do much major public outreach). I didn’t receive a response from my friend on how to post on the MS Info Canvas page, so I followed up with her and decided to pursue other methods to promote my fundraiser within school while waiting for her to get back to me. I took some of my flyers to school and began to put them up (since I’d gotten permission on Day Ten to do so, as long as I tried to stick to noticeboards). I tacked two up on noticeboards but realized that wouldn’t be enough to attract much attention and decided to look for a workaround: I asked a couple of teachers if it was okay for me to put flyers up outside their classrooms (on their doors, on adjacent walls, etc.) and they agreed. I maximized my noticeability with limited opportunity.

I also sent emails of appreciation to all three of my interviewees, who had all been kind enough to take time out of their schedule to speak to me. I thanked them for the unique perspectives they had offered on the rare disease issue, which wouldn’t have been so readily available or comprehensible on the Internet.

Additionally, I considered alternative fundraising methods (for example, a bake sale in my neighborhood or at a farmers’ market). However, after researching for a while, I realized that most farmers’ markets within the 30-day project time limit had already closed applications for stalls. In terms of doing one in my neighborhood, I wasn’t sure how much foot traffic I would get and decided against it.

Since in-person fundraising opportunities outside of school were limited, I shifted my focus to my school instead. I knew that it did fundraising opportunities during lunch periods once a month and sent an email to my social studies teacher, requesting whether it was possible to have the one in May within the time of the 30-day project.

Today’s Fundraising Status: $260 🦋
