Day Twenty-Eight
Today was almost entirely article-focused. I proofread my piece once more, making minor edits to polish flow, grammar, repeated words, lack of clarity, etc. I'm happy with how it looks!
I also checked the New York Times’ submission guidelines for more information on how to structure the article. The main criterion that I’d been concerned about was the rule on citing sources (all referenced works had to be linked). For the most part, I had already followed this rule by hyperlinking URLs that I used for research — but I wasn’t sure how to link my interviews (since I didn’t get them from online). I ultimately decided, after looking at some other guest essays with interviews and talking with others, that I didn’t need to link them, given that I had no way to. I will keep my citations as they currently are.
I will fill out the submission form once I receive a response from my third interviewee (who had sent me an email requesting me to slightly modify one of my quotes yesterday — Day Twenty-Seven. I’d sent a response containing the revised quote and asking whether that was all right on the same day). If I don’t receive a response by afternoon tomorrow (Day Twenty-Nine), I will follow up on the consent request.
Finally, I changed my goal back to $500 from $600 (which GoFundMe had moved it up to). I will try to reach the lower goal instead due to time constraints.
